Tanzania's lakes and rivers offer plenty of opportunities for getting out on the water. Head to the shores of Lake Manyara, renowned for its varied bird species, including pink flamingos and African spoonbills, to spend a few hours exploring by canoe. You can also paddle across Lake Duluti, formed in the hollow of a volcanic crater, getting up close to its plethora of waterfowl.
You can add some adrenaline to your trip in Arusha National Park. Set off on a day of canyoning in the river gorge here and you can scale waterfalls on the lower reaches of Mount Meru’s slopes.
Just be sure to check the dates of dry and wet season before planning an expedition. Your local agent will help you find the best time for your trip.
