Concentrated in the north of the country, Tanzania's hot springs are renowned for their health benefits. The most famous are the Rundugai hot springs, located around 22 miles from Moshi in the heart of the Sanya Plains.
Surrounded by an arid, dusty landscape, their crystal-clear waters are fringed by trees with giant, maze-like roots. Take a nap under the palm trees at the edge of the springs, and you'll be lulled to sleep by the sounds of birds and playful monkeys. If you're lucky, you might also catch a glimpse of the imposing Mount Kilimanjaro when you wake up. The tallest mountain in Africa is visible throughout the year when skies are clear.
Locals call these hot springs "maji moto" or "chemka", which translate to "hot water" or "boiling" in Swahili.
